Saving Costs – Saving the Environment: Innovations for the Telecoms Industry
Following extensive research into industry trends we are delighted to announce a change of focus for the 2009 Global Green Telecom Summit. Implementations of environmentally-friendly strategies have increased considerably in the past year. A key reason for this increase is the necessity for operators in developing and rural areas to adopt a “green” approach. Basing these strategies on cost-effectiveness and logistical preference, it is often a side-line benefit that the impact on the environment is also reduced. By reducing the energy consumption in the network and deploying alternative energy solutions, the telecoms industry will greatly reduce its impact on the environment. Currently the ICT industry accounts for 2% of global carbon emissions. A key focus of the conference will be how this impact can be reduced. In addition, the telecoms industry has an increasingly important role to play in reducing the remaining 98% of carbon emissions worldwide. The potential for minimising energy consumption across the global economy grows as ICT services become more sophisticated. Delegates at the Summit will find a second focus on how the telecoms industry can re-focus its innovative services to enable a green economy.
